Continuous reed valve failure?

by dm
(northfield, ohio)

7.5 hp 2 stage this is the third time this year the reed valves have failed. i have replaced reed valves, plates and all gaskets. what is causing this. thank you DM

_______________
Interesting issue, DM.

It would be good to know what the failure of the valves is? Are they breaking, warping, what?

Perhaps as a comment here you could give us those details, and also provide details about where the compressor is installed, what it is that your shop does, ambient operating temperatures and anything else you can think of.

To me, repetitive compressor component failures like the one you are having may point to an environmental issue.

Cheers,

Bill

Boy DM, that's a tough one.

I know that the brittleness of metal changes due to exposure to some gasses and to heat, but it appears as though your compressor isn't experiencing these.

The reed valves are breaking off, huh?

OK folks out there, anybody have any ideas for DM besides just a bad batch of valves?

Thanks,

B.

Have an Ingersoll Rand model 7T2 (3 yrs old) it builds pressure but constantly runs & won't shut down (just changed out the pressure switch & reflared the intercooler line) any suggestions??

Cheryl, does it build pressure to the cut out point and pressure builds past that, or does it reach a pressure plateau that is below the normal cut out, and does not build pressure past that point?

Please provide more info as a comment here.

Cheers,

Bill
