Concern about regulator on CFFN250N

I have a CFFN250N. It will automatically shut off at the preset of about 120 psi. The regulator will not set to a lower psi. I have replaced the regulator but it does the same thing.

It would be hard to put on wrong. The other way would have the gauge upside down.

Regulator woes
by: Bill

Hi Brian... the information about how regulators work is already on this site on the regulators page.

The regulator will not show a reading if the tank pressure is zero, regardless of how many times you turn the knob.

As you turn the regulator knob clockwise, the needle on the regulator will move displaying an increasing pressure until the needle displays the pressure in the tank, and the needle will then NOT move up further regardless of how many times you turn the knob.

If, as you say "both gauges are at 0 and the regulator nob is all the way to the left and I turn it on, the pressure gauge moves" then that tells me that your tank gauge is pooched. The tank gauge should always show the pressure that is in the tank. If it doesn't, the gauge is broken.

If both gauges are at 0 and the regulator nob is all the way to the left and I turn it on, the pressure gauge moves but the regulator does not. If I turn the regulator all the way to the right the turn it on the regulator gauge moves with the pressure gauge.

Typically you rotate the knob clockwise, watching the regulator gauge face, and when the pressure display reaches the downstream air pressure you want, stop turning the knob.

Also, typically, if the pressure supply to the regulator is zero, you won't be able to dial up the pressure setting, as the pressure setting is predicated on there being air pressure to regulate.

Regulator is installed correctly. If all the air is out of the tank and pressure gage is at 0 and the regulator knob is turned all the way to the left and the regulator gage is at 0. Walk me thru the steps to set the pressure to 40 psi.

Regulator on a CFFN250N

Make sure the regulator is installed correctly. If it's installed backwards, as in the air flow is through the regulator the wrong way, the symptoms would mirror those you write about.
