Motor runs but not the compressor.

Bill answers...

Hi Phil, and thank you for visiting this website and for writing in.

Compressor won't run, but motor does, huh?

Since you don't indicate what type of compressor you have, I'm going to guess it's one with an internal drive train, rather than one with a belt on a sheave that drives another sheave on the compressor head.

That being the case, you've probably got a problem with the drive train in your compressor.

The shaft of the motor runs into a crank shaft that cycles the piston(s). If the motor is running, is the motor shaft turning? If not, the motor's pooched. Likely it is turning the shaft though.

So, somewhere under your piston head somethings awry.

Are you up for tearing down your compressor to find the cause? If not, check out the repair pages to find a repair shop near you.

Also, bear in mind what you paid for the compressor when new. Sometimes a compressor that was purchased for under $200 dollars may cost more than that to get it fixed if it's not under warranty. Spare parts and labor costs are quite high these days.

Cheers,

Bill

compressor pump won't run

The key on the engine shaft is most likely worn to bits! Free spinning the shaft, easy fix in my book.Tear the pump of and replace the key.
