Compressor won't reach cut out pressure

Hi,
I have a Bostich 150 psi 6 gal pancake compressor model # CAP2000P. The last couple of times I've used it, it pressurizes up to approx. 145 psi then keeps on running without ever reaching the cutoff point of 150 psi. After a few minutes it smells and feels hot. If I turn if off then back on using the ON/OFF switch it will stay off until the pressure drops to the lower set point. The compressor then comes on and does the same thing again.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Bill says...Lots of people write in about compressors that won't build pressure to the cut out level.
I've created a troubleshooting page about that
right here. Read the page carefully, and look at the summary sheet of issues that cause what you are experiencing with your air compressor.
Regards,
Bill
