Compressor will start but runs slow then stops

Just had the electric motor rebuilt and it runs great.

When I attach the belt to the compressor and turn it on the compressor runs real slow and will stop.

The only thing I can see is the belt may be to short. The motor adjustment is at the shortest point. Could a longer belt be the fix?

Also the temp today is about 40 degrees.

The belt, typically, should have about 1/2" of play to both sides of center. If yours does, then it likely isn't too short, Monty.

Tell me the details of the power supply for your compressor, as a comment here, please.

Cheers,

Bill

I have figured out some of my problem. I unhooked the tube that runs from the compressor to the electric shut off box mounted on the tank. When I unhooked it the motor and compressor run freeley. When I hook it back up the motor will bog down. I can blow through the pipe so I'm wondering if it is gummed up where the pipe connects to the box.

I doubt that. What you have done is unloaded the compressor. You may want to disassemble, clean, and reassemble the unloader valve. Try that, and post another comment as to how that works, please.
