compressor will not start .. Switch seems good
wont do anything, no humming or other noises, just dead. Switch seems good and there is power to the unit and the motor after the switch

If your air tank is empty, then the switch should have tripped to allow power to flow from the switch to the motor.
You say there is power to the pressure switch, and that the power is flowing from the pressure switch to the motor.
I think you have a start capacitor that has shorted out, and not allowing power to flow to the motor at all, so nothing at all is happening.
If the start capacitor were good, and the motor bad, you would expect to hear or see something when the compressor was powered up.
