compressor will not build pressure

i have a type 30 IR compressor .i have replaced the complete valve plate assem. and i have honed the cylinders and reringed them. all looks good but it still will only build about 40 psi. the in tank check valve is good and the compressor does not have too much blow-by in the crankcase.need help thanks

Jack, what happens when the compressor reaches the 40 PSI? Does it stop? If so, check the pressure switch.

If it continues to run, check the intake port to see if you can feel any huffing and puffing. If so, it's likely a gasket or valve issue.

What's the motor condition? If it's wearing out, it may not have enough left in it to push the pressure past the 40 PSI.
