Compressor still will not start after replacing start capacitor

by Chuck
(Eaton Rapids Michigan)

I replaced the starter capacitor already and thought it solved my problem, the compressor worked while I tested it, even restarted after shutting it off mid cycle. Next day I go out to use it and the motor just hums then pops the breaker. It won't start unless I give the flywheel a spin. Once I do this it will continue to work for the time I'm using it, but the next day the same thing happens. Could it be the run capacitor also needs to be replaced.

Bill says...

That the motor hums and then the breaker pops suggests that the motor hasn't enough amps to get it going, or that the motor itself has failed.

Can you check that the motor actually works before changing capacitors?

Cheers,

Bill
