Compressor starts to build pressure than stops

Hi A I have an old Craftsman conpresser and the pump broke A rod.

So I replaced the air pump and it would not build over 80 psi it would start to slow down and just stop.

I checked the check valve and than replaced the cut out/in switch and the same thing happened so I replaced the motor now it builds to about 90 psi than the same thing happens. Any help in solving the problem would be great. Thank you Don.

Hello Don. It sounds like the load is building to the point that the motor cannot exceed it, and grinds to a halt.

Yet, if that happens, usually the motor will draw more and more amperage until the breaker trips.

When it comes to a stop, is the motor still trying to go? Is it getting warmer?

Or, is it reaching a certain pressure and then the pressure switch trips out and stops the motor?

Cheers,

Bill
