Compressor starts slow and stops after few seconds. Breaker sometimes resets.

When I run the air compressor it only runs a few seconds and then stops. Sometimes it will trip a 15 amp breaker which is resettable.

Is the motor failing or could something else be causing this.

Jason

Hi Jason.

Not sure yet what your compressor problem is. Try this, please.

Unplug, open tank drain, drain to zero PSI, close drain, plug in and start.

Any change?

Pressure Switch?
by: Troy

I have a similar problem with my compressor. Sanborne 5hp, 60 gal.

I will blow a fuse after about 3-5 seconds. I have changed the capacitors already and have determined that is not the problem.

I pulled the plastic motor housing off which allowed me to remove the transfer tube from the motor.

I also removed the hose after the regulator.

Now when I plug it in the motor will start and run as long as I dont hook up the external hose after the regulator. If I do that the motor will slowly turn, fail to start and blow the fuse.

Thanks

No, not the pressure switch. You have an motor overload issue, but no way I can tell if it mechanically created (valve problem, maybe) or electrically related, motor wearing out etc.
