It starts OK, fills to cut out pressure, you use some air, pressure drops to the cut in pressure level, but the compressor doesn't start, is that right?

I don't have a lot of information here to help you determine your compressor problem.

Please do this. Unplug the compressor, open the tank drain, and drain the tank to zero. Close the tank drain, and plug it in.

Does it start? If so, does the pressure get up to the normal cut out pressure level and the compressor stops?

OK, if this happens, then open the drain valve only slightly, and watch the pressure drop on the the tank gauge. When it reaches normal cut in pressure, what, if anything, happens?
