Bill says...

Where there is smoke, there is normally heat.

Heat is caused, in the compressor pump, by friction between the moving elements. That's why compressors have oil lubrication, if they are not built to an oil-less configuration.

If you have smoke it is possible that you've run out of oil, or if you compressor is oil-less, then my may have a part malfunction.

Overloaded and burning out motors sometimes smoke.

If you have a part failure or no lubricating oil in an oil lubricated type compressor, or the motor has burnt out, then your compressor will not start.

You haven't provided enough information for me to try and help you diagnose the problem further.

Cheers and good luck!

Bill
