Compressor regulator leaks from the knob before and after rebuild.

Hello I have a 33 gallon 150 psi craftsman upright oil- free air compressor, last week I noticed a small leak coming from the regulator knob.

I ordered a rebuild kit, tore her down, cleaned everything, reassembled with the new components, making sure to Lube all the I rings with the supplied lubrication packet. Reattached to compressor.

Still leaks from the knob, unless I crank her down to max psi. Then it stops. Any other setting solid air leak.

Regulator leaking

General purpose regulators are of the relieving type, meaning, if there is air pressure downstream of the regulator that is higher than the setting on the regulator, the downstream air will vent back through the regulator until the downstream air is the same pressure as the regulator setting.

So, is there a source of higher pressure air downstream from your regulator?

Otherwise, I would suspect the air regulator repair did not address the original issue, Randy.
