Compressor pressure switch / pressure relief valve lever/arm/plate sticking

Hey,

My compressor is a bit of a mut, but of good parts and I bought it that way. Originally a Gardner Denver unit now with a two piston cast iron pump and a Leeson farm duty motor.

The problem I'm having is that the pressure relief valve works intermittently, or the pressure switch will not operate the valve. When it does not work or unload the pressure, it will overload the motor and pop the breaker when it cuts out. I do understand the theory, due to the compression left in the pump.

My troubleshooting has led me to the fact that the switch will operate the lever for the relief only when the combined cut out screw is set out/loose at about 50psi.

When the cut out is set high it sticks.

Is my pressure switch faulty or is it just sticking due to needing a cleaning?
Thanks, Art

Art, with the power off, you can try blowing out the pressure switch internals with compressed air, if you can find a source. :-)

However, if the switch is not working normally, I expect it's time for a new one. They do wear out, and they are not, at least anymore, very well made I fear.

Cheers,

Bill
