(compressor) over heating (and jumping around)

Hi i have an up right 80 gallon compressor.

When it gets hot it will fill up and start to jump around.

I just replaced the motor besause it burnt out, when i was doing that i found out the motor was wired wrong. Insted of the fan pushing air over the heads it was pulling it away. I fixed that proplem.

but now after about a half an hour it gets hot and starts to jump. Then it has a hard time spining the gear and compleatle stops when it cools down it will work again but not for long. any help will help me thank you. my e mail is lordvader@shaw.ca

Hi Chris. I must confess that I have a hard time with trying to visualize an 80 gallon tank with a compressor pump on top, jumping around.

Let me ask you a question. Before you replaced the motor and discovered that the fan was pulling air from rather than pushing air over "the heads", did your compressor jump around after it had run for a while and become hot?

I can't see your setup, but as I recall, a TEFC (totally enclosed fan cooled) motor has a fan built onto the motor shaft at the rear, and this fan's purpose is to keep the motor cool.

I don't know what the fan is that you are referring to, but if it is the motor fan, then you have contributed to the overheating by stopping the air flow necessary to cool the motor.

If it's not the motor fan you are referring to, I would still reverse the motor again anyway, to see if redirecting the air to where it was before you discovered the mistake in air flow, that may not have been a mistake at all.

Cheers,

Bill
