Compressor motor runs but compressor won't work

Central pneumatic 2hp 8 gallon compressor #95386 worked fine for a couple of weeks. Now when you turn on switch the motor runs but the compressor won't kick in and build pressure. This is a new unit bought about 6 months back but only used it in the last month for nailing work. The warranty is only 90 days so I cannot exchange it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Bill says...In order for the compressor motor to start, the pressure switch must sense that the pressure level in the system is at cut in pressure level, or below.
That your motor runs when you turn the compressor on suggests that the pressure switch is working OK.
In order for the compressor to pump air into the tank, the pump drive must be attached to the motor shaft, and as the shaft rotates, the pump works.
It's hard to be sure, but it sounds to me, from your description, as though the motor has, somehow, become disconnected from the pump drive, and even though the motor is running, nothing is happening since the rotating shaft isn't connected to anything.
This is what I would check first.
Cheers,
Bill
