Compressor looses nearly all pressure

by Ray Kelling

Help! Harbor Freight Compressor builds up pressure in tank but looses nearly all the pressure when it shuts down, dropping from 125 to 40 psi in about 5 sec. Motor has a very hard time restarting as if it is under an extreme load and will sometimes trip the breaker. Ray

Uh oh! Ray, where is the air going?

Check the unloader valve to see if, when the compressor reaches cut out pressure and stops, if air is bleeding out there.

If so, your check valve (see valve page for link to check valves) is likely leaking.

Check that out first, and then see what's what.
