Compressor fills tank, but no air going to the regulator

by Curt

I have a fairly new, seldom used 6 gallon porter cable pancake compressor. Today I turned it on and filled the tank to approx 100 psi. When I turned the knob to set the regulator pressure, nothing happened. I hooked up a hose to verify that the gauge wasnt bad. No pressure. I emptied the tank using the purge valve, opened the regulator valve and refilled the tank using the compressor hoping that would remedy the problem. No luck. Any tips?

Bill says...

The tank gauge is reading 100 PSI, the regulator gauge is reading zero... is that correct? And when you turn the regulator knob, nothing happens?

Assuming that some great clot of crud hasn't leaped out of your tank and blocked the outlet hole, are you sure you are actually adjusting the regulator?

Some of them require the knob to be pushed down or pulled up before the knob actually engages with the stem. Please try that.

Cheers,

Bill

Took it apart
by: Steve

I took the regulator apart & found that the actual (nipple) that is depressed by the tightening of the regulator knob is PLASTIC!! This (nipple) broke off from the disk is was attached to in order to affect the flow of air (that piece is METAL) so of course over time or over tightening the regulator the (nipple) broke!! Need to buy whole new regulator since I cannot find the individual (disk with nipple) piece!! CHEAP.

Me too

I have same compressor and same problem. Did either of you come up with a solution? Thanks.

If the tank is full of air, the air is getting to the regulator. If you adjust the pressure setting, turning the knob on the regulator after you push in or pull out on it, and the gauge on the regulator does not change, and assuming that the gauge is not pooched, then I suspect you need a new regulator.

Absolutely EXACT issue
by: Steve

I have the EXACT same compressor & problem, tried the same solution...no avail!!! There is no button to engage the regulator just a knob to adjust how much pressure you want to flow through regulator. I would imagine something "clogged: the regulator but I do not have the time to be taking this apart, going to try to contact manufacturer, in the mean time I will purchase new one (different brand for sure).
