Compressor cuts out after a few minutes of operation

When trying to inflate an automobile tire, the tire does not inflate (no increase in tire pressure) and the compressor shuts down. (central pneumatic 3 gal Model 95725).

Howdy Howard.

I don't know the model of compressor you have, so I have to ask, is there a pressure gauge on the compressor tank? If so, when the compressor is running, is there air pressure building in the tank?

Do you have a regulator with which you can control the downstream air pressure to your air line and to the tire fill device? What pressure is showing on this regulator gauge?

Are you feeling the motor of the compressor getting hotter than normal?

I obviously need a lot more info to try to figure out what the problem is. A picture of your compressor would sure help. If you can, resubmit your question with the answers to the questions I've asked you, and with a picture.

Thanks,

Bill

can't inflate tire
by: nancy

I have a excalibur (very old) air compressor 4.0 CFM 1 hp. model number is 600200 and it also says campbell Hausfeld underneath. I have no problem getting the air to come out of the compressor, and when I hold the nozzle to the tire valve, I cannot feel air seeping out around the valve, I hear air going into the tire, but it is not inflating? could you tell me what I am doing wrong? I have photos if you need them.

Hi Nancy:

What's the pressure setting on your regulator? If it's not high enough, then the pressure inside the tire may prevent more air from going in.

Sure, make a new question and send in a photo.

If you depress (carefully) the center of the fill valve on your air line, air should come out. Does it? If air is coming out, then either the pressure in your tire is higher than the pressure in your air line, or the valve on the tire itself is suspect.

Cheers,

Bill
