Compressor builds up some pressure then just keeps running

it builds up air pressure to 80 pounds, which is not the preset, but stops building up and just continues to run with no change in pressure. Then when turned off the pressure slowly bleeds down over a couple of days.

Compressor keeps running
by: Bill

When your air compressor tank pressure reaches 80 PSI, my guess is that either one of the valves ceases to work, or, you have a gasket that lets go and rather than pumping air into the tank, the air cycles back and forth between high pressure and low.

See the pages on this site under troubleshooting about why air compressors stop building pressure for more info.
