Compressor blows ground fault breakers

I have a 6HP. 30 gal. craftsman air compressor. Worked fine for 7 yrs. Now it blows the ground fault breakers in the garage when turned on. I checked for frayed/damaged wires (none) and checked connections to make sure they had good contact (they do) no signs of corrosion. What might be the problem?

You might want to go back to the Troubleshooting page, and click on the link to the page about "Blows Breakers or Fuses". There is a lot of information on these pages about why compressors do that, and you may find an answer there.

In order to try and diagnose your compressor problem, I'd need a detailed description of the compressor action from when you plug it in or turn it on to the point when the breaker pops.

You might also want to check under the Valve page, and read the page linked from unloader valve, to ensure that this isn't the problem.

Cheers,

Bill
