i have an older ch 20gal 4hp compressor. i just replaced the check valve because i thought that was the issue but my compressor fills once without a problem but blow the fuse everytime i try to refil the tank (or when it automatically tries to restart the motor)

It's blowing the fuse because the motor is pulling too many amps on start up or the pressure switch is shorting on low pressure cut in.
Could be that you have too many other electrical devices running on the same circuit.
Could be that the start capacitor is failing, and that's causing too much amperage draw.
Can't be more specific than that with the info provided.
Cheers,
Bill
