Compressor blows breaker and shuts down

by Vern

Running model 37188. Kicking out main electrical breaker after running few seconds. Cannot keep breaker closed. Top of motor is warm.

Bill wonders too...

Howdy Vern.

Compressor motors, particularly lower cost DIY type compressor motors, tend to run hot. So, that yours is warm is likely an indication that it just hasn't run long enough to get hot.

I wish I better understood what you mean by running for a few seconds?

Are you seeing pressure start to build, or in fact, is the motor just trying to start and can't?

Does your unloader valve operate when the compressor stops?

I'm thinking it might be an unloader valve, or motor capacitor, but I just can't be sure with the info you provide.

Sorry,

Bill
