Compressor blowing head gasket on one head

by Howard

I have a 2 Cyl Compressor 3.9 bore X 3.5 stroke each cyl. 1 head keeps blowing the head gasket on the top between the head and Valve plate.

I resurfaced the head which was a minor cleanup and the Valve plate which was out .010 or so.

It lasted almost 2 days of running then the Head gasket failed again in the same place. There is a lot of heat going through the plate, it has a blue color to it. I don't know what model it is since the tag is worn off. It looks to be an Ololiab compressor by looking at one for sale that looks very close. Only 1 Cyl is doing this and it's always in the same area on the Head side of the plate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Howard

Hi Howard.

Did you resurface the head to try to rectify the problem, or did the problem begin after the resurfacing job?

It sounds like the gasket isn't sealing properly and if that's the case, something's warped.

Anyone else have any suggestions for Howard?

Thanks,

Bill

Head gasket problem
by: Howard

I purchased the compressor this way, I did surface the head which was pretty good then resurfaced the Valve plate which was out about .008-.010.

The head gasket lasted 2 days after resurfacing.

I thought I had it licked but it didn't last.

When I took it apart I noticed the Valve plate was Blue so it's getting very hot which may be the problem. I'm going to pull the Cyl off and check it to see if the bore is out. It may be the seal of the rings and I'm getting blow by making all the heat. I'll update ASAP, I'm not going to let this haunt me. I may have to do a clean up on the Valve plate since it got so hot.
