Coleman vc40c110p1d101 compressor will not restart

Coleman Model vc40c110p1d101

I flip the power lever to the off position and wait 10 minutes or more it will restart. But lately I found that if leave the switch in the ON position and then I tap on the box that contains the on-off switch that the compressor will then start.

What is wrong ?

Thanks for any insight.

If I read you correctly, and if the "tap" thing was true, but just undiscovered till lately, then it might be a bad pressure switch. If that's the case, you may be able to fix it by cleaning it up if it's dirty or corroded.

Off hand I'd say that you've got some heat build up in the motor, and it trips the thermal cut out.

When the motor cools sufficiently, it allows the cut out to reset and the motor will run until it overheats again.

That suggests a power supply problem or a longer than normal run time to fill. If the latter, you may have an issue with valves or gaskets among other things.

All of these issues are covered in the pages in the troubleshooting section on this site.
