Coleman Powermate BV6548049 piston issue

I wrote about a week ago with a loud squealing noise and slow start up. You said it is most likely a piston ring problem. What type of difficulties are there in changing out rings or do I need an entire pump assembly? There is also a good amount of oil in the tank, how can I remedy that? Is there a gasket or something that may need replacing or would fixing the piston ring potentially solve the oil problem?

Michael, if you are comfortable tearing down your compressor, you should be able to change piston rings. I can't tell you if you can or can't, you have to decide.
If your rings are worn and oil is bypassing the rings into the compressed air stream, and into your tank, then replacing the rings and improving the seal will reduce or eliminate the oil getting into the air.
Cheers,
Bill
