coleman ~ compressor continues to run and doesn't seem to pump past 150psi

I have a 1999 coleman 2 stage air compressor model BV6548049 6.5 hp 200 psi. The tag on the compressor is mod 490006XAY0900 . The compressor continues to run and doesn't seem to pump past 150psi. It takes for ever just to get up to 150psi and then it wont shut off.

The compressor continues to run as it is trying to reach the normal cut out pressure level, and cannot get there to trip the pressure switch off.

Jack, what is the normal cut out pressure level for this compressor? 150 PSI seems to be a bit above average.

If it kept running and the pressure kept going up, I would guess it was the pressure switch.

Since the pressure is stopping at around 150 PSI, and presumably the normal cut out is higher than that, then look to the inlet valve leaking as the first possible reason, and if the valves are not leaking, then you likely have a gasket failing under pressure.

Cheers,

Bill

Just a note to say thanks for your information about my compressor and to let you were dead on. I had a blown head gasket.
Thank You so much!
