Coleman 1.5 hp, 95-125psi, 11 gal air compressor won't run

This is an oilless, Single Stage, Direct Drive, Electric Air Compressor. Will not run. If completely depressured, and after some time it will cycle the pump a few times and then quit. There is power after the pressure switch. Disconnected from the tank, so not the check valve. What else could it be?

Sandy, a model number would have helped me try to find your air compressor on line, so I could check the specs.

Typically, a compressor problem that you have posted can be caused by insufficient power. In an air compressor, that could be caused by using a too long and too small extension cord, or a power bar.

In terms of equipment failure, a weakened or failed start capacitor would also cause your compressor symptoms.

Your post says your compressor is a 5.5 HP. That means you are supplying it with 220 volts, right?

For what it is worth, here is a link to a manual - http://www.powermate.com/pdfs/2007/11/26/parts_l0300809,l0551109_l0551509_l0552109_l0552709_l0602109_l0602709.pdf
I do not see capacitors, but I may just be missing them, due to my lack of complete knowledge. Is it possible they do not have, or are internal. Parts for motor are not individual, but have to order the whole motor, which seems to run about $180 - 200, which in my opinion is too much to put into this compressor.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer the questions.

If you insert "image of electric motor capacitor" in your web browser, you will see them singly and attached to motors to give you a guide.

You are welcome for any help provided. Thank you for the manual. I will upload it to the page shortly.

Sorry, the Model is a Coleman Powermate L0551109. Manual calls for 115/15 voltage/amps. Not using an extension cord, directly into same outlet for the last 11 years, with this being the first problems we have had with it. If it is the start capacitor, where is it located on this model, not seeing it on the parts drawing/list. Thanks for your help

Sandy, typically the capacitors (often there are two, one start and one run) are attached to the side of the motor, round, about 4" long or so.

I can't find a photo of your compressor, so I can't be more specific.

Sounds like a cap problem to me.
