R40 champion pump sometimes blows PRV

by ron smyth
(hudson fl.)

Have a R40 champion pump with head unloaders. Once pilot valve reaches 175 the unit unloads as it should. After 15-20 minutes on running unloaded pressure will build to 200 and blow off the relief valve. Don't want to down the truck till we have parts on hand to repair it. I know either air is getting by the valve, valve seat gasket or the unloader stem. What I need to know does this unit have new or old style inlet valves with or without fixed unloader forks. s/n rd0062660

Champion 1994 R30D has air from head to unloader during run cycle

by Jason
(Georgia)

I have a Champion 1994 R30D picked up used rebuilt one pump with busted crank all new electrical all works great.

The pump that was rebuilt has auto tank drain and cycles as should.

The other pump does not have auto tank drain, but the bolt has a little hole in the middle (assuming it is the un loader valve.

It is pressurizing the line to the low oil cut out needle valve and leaking air with oil mix.

Not sure if the oil cut out valve needs work or the un loader valve or the governor assembly.

I would appreciate any help and will take pictures and post if needed.

About line on vintage 1929 Champion Air Compressor

Just looked at your sight. Nice. We have a Champion 1929 Model RE-14 (OE40) serial number: UP 13191. We are trying to put it back in line. Champion has no parts or manuals. Have had it apart and it pumps. On the governor housing side there is a line that comes from the cooling reservoir and a line that goes to the air intake. There is also another port. What is this port for? There is not a port on the head for unloading, unless it has been removed.
