Scratches in Champion 2nd Stage Cylinder

Vertical linear scratches in the 2nd stage compressor cylinder

Vertical linear scratches in the 2nd stage compressor cylinder

The valves came out of my Champion R15B easily after removing the outer crush seals. But now I wonder about the vertical linear scratches in the 2nd stage cylinder. They are fairly deep. Will it hurt the pump to run it with the scratches? If it will run that way for years, I don't want to fix it.

Well, it won't hurt the pump any more than it has been.

But it could damage the new rings, and/or kill your compression.

I'd be inclined to take it to an engine shop and let them look at. It may be possible to hone out the grooves and still have the rings seal.

Looking at the old rings and piston, can you tell if one or the other was causing the wear?

Champion R15B Valve Removal

Valves from a Champion R15B pump

Valves from a Champion R15B pump

How do you remove the valves from a Champion R15B pump for cleaning? The intake valve came out very easily, but the other 3 are stuck in the head. Don't want to force anything before I know what I am doing. See pic. I assume that I will need to replace all the crush seals.

From your other post, I gather this is resolved?

Maybe you could add what you did here?

champion R15A pumping oil into filter

by jim

The tube that goes from the governor up to intake is pumping oil into filter and into piston.

Would this be a governor problem or blow by problem.

Pulled head and see no excessive wear or broken rings or scoring.

What do you think?

Oil level fine
Air filter removed I can see oil pumping in
I'm sure it's probably the rings, there is nothing in the governor that I can see from looking at manual that could cause it.

oil in air filter

I don't see how this could be the governor unless the oil level is way high.

How much oil are we talking about?

Does it happen if you remove the filter?
