My 2 stage compressor reaches 60psi and thd motor slows and gets hot. Wondering if the motor is tierd. I have a champion r-15 pump and running 5hp 220v leeson motor. thanks for your help.

Hi Drew. Your compressor motor slows and gets hotter than usual as it can't handle the increasing load of compressing air into the tank against the air that's already compressed in there. In your case, that's about 60 PSI.

Things to check and the one way (check valve) between the cylinders, the check valve going into the tank, might as well check the intake valve filter, if there is sufficient oil in the sump, and if all these are OK, then you are developing a mechanical failure in the compressor itself, or the motor is getting tired.

Also, make sure that there is sufficient amperage getting to the motor. A choked supply of power (something else using too much power on the same circuit) can contribute to motor slowing and overheating.

gardner denver needs quailty control - oil issue
by: Anonymous

I purchased a low hour, two year old, 10hp horizontal, 120 gallon compressor a few dyas ago.

Days before bidding on this unit, I studied gardner denver's site and was quite pleased and hoped to win this to replace my 5hp ingersol vertical.

I won the bid, got her home and started cleaning it up.

It was purchased local from a factory dealer in 2008 right after a bad flood had hit the city for emergency purposes.

I have noticed that the grunge all over the unit, is actually belting dust which had collected to every oil leaking area of the pump, too many to list.

Factory belt alignment out over 1/8 inch, luckily the belts have minor wear and the pully's are ok.

Installer used 3/8 bolts in 7/16 slots instead of moving the pulley on the shaft.

Checked oil level, none in site glass, took out virgin oil plug and crankcase is full.
Oh gee, !!! the dude smeared silicone all over the site glass before installing and plug the holes.

All intake and exaust bolts, no where close to torque specs, and one was stripped and replaced with piss poor heli-coil job and the new bolt was in by two threads and ripped.

This is just a start, pictures have been taken and I wait to see if they will stand behind it.
What would be the cause of such extreme oil amounts coming out?
Thanks
