Champion Centurion VSC5 breaker blows and won't reset until compressor wheel is turned.

Champion Centurion VSC5 breaker blows and won't reset until compressor wheel is turned. Single stage, single cylinder compressor vertical model.

The unit is located in an unattended car wash equipment room. Every few days the 220 vac breaker is off and it can't be reset until the compressor wheel is turned. Then when the breaker is reset, the motor starts up and the compressor runs fine for several more days.

The unloader valve releases air when the compressor shuts off as it reaches the upper psi setting.

Any trouble shooting help would be appreciated.

VSC5 breaker blows and won't reset

You mean when you try to reset the breaker is just stays loose, or it resets but blows immediately?

And you're talking about the supply breaker as opposed to the motor breaker?

You may have a short in the wiring which is being "fixed" when you pull the belt guard. Inspect it carefully.

Not knowing for sure if the motor has them or not, if it does, I suspect a flat spot on the brushes
, preventing contact.

Turning the pump sheave would also rotate the motor shaft, and allow the brushes proper contact again.

Anyone else?
