CFM vs Pressure

I have been thru ur site and learnt that increasing pressure means decrease in cfm and vice-versa but it seems there is no direct factor(number) of relation between them, so calculating my requirements against standard available models is difficult. I would like to know if there is a chart / graph available on this site or otherwise that shows the relation between decreasing CFMs with increase in pressure????

Thank you for visiting the pages on my site, Abhivansh.

An increase in pressure does not necessarily mean a lessening of flow. As long as the flow required is within the capacity of the compressor to produce it, you can increase and / or reduce the downstream pressure with no loss of flow.

When you are dealing with smaller DIY type air compressors, they are low flow to begin with, and they have a capacity reduction when you the pressure is high over when the output pressure is low.

If you have a 200 HP compressor, and you have a downstream application for 50 CFM @ 60 PSI, and then you decide that you need 50 CFM @ 80 PSI, you will not have a lessening of flow at the higher pressure, as the compressor has the capacity to deliver that flow.

Cheers,

Bill

Relation between cfm & Delivery Pressure.
by: deepak

i want to know that whether i can increase cfm from a compressure by reducing operating pressure from 6.6 bar to 5.8 bar .the capacity of my compressure is 957cfm @ 7 bar.

_______________

Yes, as you reduce the pressure the compressor can deliver more flow. The higher the pressure output, the lower the flow.

Where it gets dicey is trying to find a formula that will enable a person to calculate the variance. I have not been able to find one.

Too low a press. high cfm required

Thanks for replying Bill

Actually i have many IR 15T2 std. compressors. They are rated at 40hp giving upto 37cfm @ 42kg pressure but my machines use only 22cfm @ 22-25kg pressure only. I wanted to know how much excess cfm does the compressor generate @ 22kg so i don't have to buy a new compressor with new machines ( i don't want my plant to look like a compressor sales showroom :)

thanking you
