2 hp 8gal. keeps shutting down prematurely. Usually will not restart until much later. Changed start capacitor and checked the reset breaker. No help . Unit used sparingly, only 2 years old...?

2HP Central Pneumatic Compressor Apparently it was shipped from the factory OUT OF ADJUSTMENT

After checking everything I could think of or that this Forum recommended, I pulled the sealant off of the pressure reset screws and started to experiment. GUESS WHAT! After some up and down adjustments, the machine began to function as it was designed to do. Apparently it was shipped from the factory OUT OF ADJUSTMENT for the proper on and off regarding air pressure. It's now on at 40psi. and off at 120psi. It starts up and runs up to 120psi. with out any trouble. Everything seems to be working fine. Thanks for your help and suggestions. It's the process of elimination that is important.

Tom, glad it worked out.

FYI I think the cut in pressure at 40 PSI is too low. Most air tools need more than that. Typically the cut in is around 80 PSI or so.

Cheers,

Bill

premature shutdown

I will check your suggestion a.s.a.p. Usually when it starts it will run for 13 seconds and then it stops. if it does reset....its another 13 seconds an repeats the stoppage. Thats starting with an empty tank. Doesn't appear to be a pressure issue, but I am not familiar with air comp. repair, etc.

The retailer has given me the run around with this problem. I bought the unit , then did not even unpack or attempt to use it for several months. So warranty is NA. Tks

Somewhere under that plastic shroud there will be an air intake. It may even have a filter on it. Get to the intake port and see if air is being pulled in while the compressor is running. That's check number one.

Then, please see the site map page, troubleshooting, links to page compressor won't build pressure.

There are lots of tips there and retyping them here doesn't make sense.

Check out the tips on that page and then post a comment here if you are still stymied. We'll do our best to help.

33898 compressor starting up at 80 will stop motor?

33898 compressor starting up at 80 will stop motor. At 20 is fine.

Motor will throw reset switch when trying to restart at 80 but starts fine from 20.
_______________________
Assuming the 80 / 20 refers to the tank pressure in PSI, please empty the tank, start the compressor, and when it cuts out, monitor the unloader valves function.

Did your unloader valve work?

If the unloader valve did not work, then your compressor motor is trying to start under excessive load, pulls too many amps, and pops the breaker.

Please provide an update as a comment here.

Bill

Compressor will not start

My compressor will not start. It attempted to and slowly shut off. Now it won't do anything

Empty the tank of air, plug the compressor right into a wall socket (no extension) and try to start again. Any change?
