capacity on quincy qi 1000

why all of a sudden is our compressor modulating when it always ran at 100% for years?

Michael, you know what you mean by "modulating", I think I know, but I'm not 100% sure, so before I tackle an answer, what does modulating mean to you in terms of your air compressor operation?

Please add a comment with details.

Thanks,

Quincy compressor, model 310, runs slow still -- after rewire for 220

by Steve
(Wichita, Ks.)

I bought an older Quincy compressor, model 310 compressor, 60 gal tank. It was wired for 110, working fine/quiet I thought but "slower" than my other compressor, single stage 5hp 60 gal unit. I wired it for 220 thinking it would run faster but it seems the same as wired for 110. (Motor isn't running faster on 220) Also it bleeds down to around 60 psi before it kicks on. any ideas?? Thanks

Steve, you are correct. If the RPM of each electric motor you install is the same, regardless of the HP of the motors, the pump will still run at the same speed.

A higher HP motor is used when more power is needed to run a bigger pump, not necessarily to run a compressor pump faster.

"Also it bleeds down to around 60 psi before it kicks on." Are you saying that every time the compressor reaches cut out pressure and stops, the air in the tank bleeds down to 60 PSI, and the compressor stops?

If so, check out your Check Valve.

If I've got it wrong, please post a comment here.

Cheers,

Bill

Quincy 350 just rebuilt and not building good pressure.

by Troy
(Indiana)

I am working on a Quincy 350 on a mobile service truck. It is powered by a Wisconsin engine. I have just went through the whole compressor(rings, gaskets, valve discs, springs, ect..)

The compressor sounds good, but builds pressure very slowly and it only builds 85-100 psi. and then continues to run but will not build any higher.

I can load/unload manually. I have rechecked the valve discs for debris and they look real clean. I took the unloaders off and ran it and it still had the same results, however, ther was very little air coming from the low pressure side and a high volume of air coming from the high pressure side where the unloader screws on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What was the condition of the gaskets?

Anyone else had experience with this type of Quincy air compressor?

Motor slowdown (not Q 350)
by: Doug in S.D. CA USA

Motor speed is not much set by voltage but by motor poles. Usually 2 or 4, maybe 6 or 8.
It sounds like one of yours is going open. A short would likely cause overheating.
Anyway, get motor checked.

5 HP compressor slowing down then speed up
by: bob

my 5 hp quincy with a 5 hp baldor motoris acting strange for the lasat 4 5 months. The compressor will slow withno pattern. While it wasdoing tjhis i measured the 2 voltafe legs one read 239 other read 240 this was measure when it was running slow and same when it justspeed up by itself. this happoend when ever it wants firston or running for couple hoursetc. no noise just slow downs almost like there a knob to reduce voltage and then at timesright after it slows down it will speed up and sometimes it dont. si i will shut it off and restarts with goodresults and sometimes not, doesnt really appear to be pressurerelated, suggestions please
