Can I replace my electric motor on my SA Mod. 2Z499D with gas ?

It has a 2 HP 240 V single phase original motor.

I want my compressor portable! What minimum HP gas do I need?

Is there a mounting plate kit available for this?

Hi George. Welcome and thanks for visiting.

You can do anything to your compressor you want to as long as you have the skills and the resources to do so. You might want to wait until it's out of warranty, 'cause what you are contemplating doing will void any warranty I know of.

HP is HP is HP. If the 2HP you are getting now from your electric motor is enough, then install a 2 HP motor.

If you opt to upsize your motor, recognize that yours is physically designed to handle a 2 HP drive, and increasing that may cause a problem.

In terms of mounting a gas motor, if the gas motor shaft is the same diameter as the electric motor shaft, then you will need a machine shop to build a mount for the gas motor, one that allows the gas motor shaft sufficient length to match the electric. I don't know of any "off the shelf" solution for you.

Consider selling your electric compressor or trading it in for a gas powered unit. You might not spend as much as you think, and it would probably save you a lot of aggravation.

Cheers,

Bill
