I tried but no change. Thank you for replying.

If you are using an extension cord, don't. If you are busing a power bar, don't.

If you have other items pulling power from the same circuit your air compressor is on, turn them off.

If the problem continues, then I believe it is time to check your start capacitor. See that page on this site.

Campbell Hausfeld model hl410100 attempts to start but won't run, it just seems like it binds

I have a Campbell Hausfeld model hl410100. I used it last week and it was fine, today I tried to use it and won't start. it makes an attempt but stalls and the motor hums but won't start the air compressor. there is approx 70psi in the tank

Does the air compressor start OK when there is no air in the tank?

What is the temperature in the area where you are using the air compressor?

Did you make any changes in the power supply to the compressor? Anything new on the same circuit? Using a power bar or extension cord?

Please respond as a comment here.

FP209599AV compressor quit running.

by Bruce
(full time rv'ing)

I used it to pump up the tires on my motor home (70 psi) and the motor just slowed down and gave up the ghost. It probably has more age (purchased '08) than use being on a shelf in the garage or stored in the motor home. It looks clean as new. I want to know if the motor/compressor part is available to replace the part that quit or if it's just scrap metal.
________________
I haven't been "under the shroud" on this compressor model, Bruce, so I cannot point specifically to the part.

All other conditions of use being equal, I would surmise that your motor start / run capacitor has failed.

Judiscious use of a multimeter to trace the power flow through the pressure switch to the motor circuit should confirm this.

Your compressor model is currently selling for around $130 or so. If all you are doing is pumping up tires on your RV, then the easiest route is to go and pick up another small air compressor from the big box store for, now, under $100 and be prepared to throw it away in a few years too.

Or, take of the motor shroud, locate the caps, test them, and if one is faulty, start the hunt for a replacement. A replacement should be in the $15 - $30 range.

Is it worth it? Only you know how you fill your days, and if it is or not.

Cheers,

Bill

Campbell Hausfeld Melben Air Compressor Pump HLO108

Campbell Hausfeld Melben Air Compressor Pump HLO108

I have a Campbell Hausfield Model HL702400AJ with another placard that reads Melben Prod. Division. Manufactured in 1992.

The pump is spitting oil through the oil fill when it reaches 60 psi. Oil is also very slowly leaking from the cylinder head gasket.

CH states the pump is obsolete and there are no parts available.

Do you know where I can get parts for this pump. If I should replace the pump, do you recommend another comparable pump.

The compressor has a 6HP electric motor.

pump parts

Depending on the design, you may find it practical to fabricate parts.

For instance, one can usually make a reasonable gasket using automotive gasket sheets.

Valves may be the same, using the old one as a template. If it's more like a gas engine valve, it's still possible, but likely cost prohibitive.

A replacement pump depends on what you want within the power capability of your motor.

Good luck.
