cambell hausfeld 28 gal air compressor,suddenly got real loud

After doing a complete rebuild,piston,sleeve,valve plates and gaskets.the air compressor cycled about 4 times and while pumping back up it all of a sudden got painfully load and it takes 30 min to pump up.did the head gasket blow internally or what?the piston is still tight on the crank with no wobble.and i dont appear to be losing air from anywhere.what can be the problem?

When you say it got real loud, is it a metal to metal sound, what?

If it's taking a long time to come up to cut out pressure, than yes, a logical place to look would be a gasket failure.
