Brute (Briggs and Stratton) not starting when I pull the start/stop button up

I purchased a Brute (Briggs and Stratton) 10 Gallon 125PSI electric air compressor about 5 years ago. I have used it about 5 or 6 times with mild duty.

Just recently, I tried to use it. It started with a struggle and the switch tripped. I reset it several times and it finally loaded up to it's rated cut off pressure. I used the unit for about 10 minutes and noticed that the pressure was lowering due to use. The unit did not power up again and all of the pressure was lost.

It has not operated since. I did some research and ended up changing out the capacitor. No fix. I am getting a voltage reading at the electrical connections on the contact box. But, I am not getting an operation of either the compressor or the motor when I turn the unit on.

Can someone help me find a solution: atintl@aol.com

074004 Brute Air Compressor

My model number is 074004. I have replaced the capacitor and switch. About $60.00. The compressor still does not work. I will check the motor to see if it is bad.

Sounds like your motor is kaput.

Unplug it. Check resistance across the motor - it should be an ohm or two. It'll probably be open (infinite) or nearly so.

If open, you could have a blown wining or bad brushes. Check the brushes first.

Also, a model number might help.
