brute air compressor kicks on and turns over very slowly

I have a brute air compressor that turns over and when it does it turns very slowly, it also seems to throw the reset switch every time to, it free spins by hand fine so I'm lost

Jeremy, remove one end of the line that runs from the pump head to the tank. Start the compressor. Any change? Comment here with a response, please.

Cheers,

Bill

Unhooked the tube and nothing, still no change in turn speed or anything

Assuming you are not using an extension cord, and the power supply to the compressor is adequate, it's time to check the capacitor. See that page linked from electrical troubleshooting for details.
