Brand new will not run.

I just purchased a 27 Gallon 1.9 HP Compressor. Said it's rated for 120/220 but has a 120 plug on the end.

I plug it into an outlet and it trips the breaker.

I unplugged everything from that circuit and it still trips the breaker.

The breaker is 20A and has nothing but a spotlight plugged into it when it's empty. It will not start at all.

Boy Jimmy, I can "hear" the frustration in your voice.

You did right in making sure that the power supply to the air compressor was clean, and I hope that means you ARE NOT using an extension cord. If you are, plug it in directly and see if that solves the problem.

Before you do though, humor me, and drain all the air from the tank. Zero pressure in there, OK?

If you have a toggle on the pressure switch, flip it back and forth a couple of times, and then make sure it's set to the ON or RUN position.

Now, plug it in. Any change? If it still pops the breaker, and it were mine, I'd take it back for a new one.

Let us know how it works out, K?

Bill

Going to try something first

Have a friend who is a Licensed Master Electrician. He's going to put in a 220 line (for free minus parts) and we're going to configure it for 220V. He thinks the line is too spread out across the house...or something like that...I'm not electrically inclined...

Anyway. Saturday is the day, I'll let everyone know about it then.
