Brand new Husky Air Compressor reads 15 psi low on gauge

I have a 26 gallon compressor with a max 150 psi. The manual says it cuts on at 120 and off at 150. However, the actual gauge reading is showing about 105 on and 135 off (15 lower on both ends).

I live at 6000 ft. but I have had other compressors that show 150 on the gauge when max is 150. Is altitude a factor in regulator switch cutoff or gauge readings?

Altitude is a factor in defining SCFM, as it is related to altitude as part of the definition.

It's just a guess, but I wonder if your gauge is reading PSIA as opposed to PSIG. In PSIG your gauge automatically compensates for atmosphere (14.7 PSI) while a PSIA gauge reads actual PSI?

i have a husky h27508uwk that dont build up pressure quickly. i did replace the reed valve asm with the upgrade version. the old valve had a broken middle reed. after replacing the valve it still doesnt build pressure up that much. there is air in the tank. my guage slowly climbs but my regulator guage shows nothing. also to check if air pesur is sufficient from the piston head, i disconnect the air outlet tube and was able to block air from coming out of the piston head. can i do this? or is something else not right here. i would think that you can stop the air

Great thought! You may be right.

Interesting thought on the gauge type. With the variance being at approximately 15 on either end...that would be the most logical solution. I might add that the same variance was identified on both the tank gauge and the regulator gauge.

I tried and tried to resolve this issue. (I bought the air compressor the same day I realized the issue). I called the service number in the manual (MAT) and they gave me a number for Home Depot support, who gave me another number to someone else who ended up having no idea who made my air compressor. This particular model is made in China, yet nobody claims ownership. Not a good situation for trying to make good on a one year warranty. In the end I took it back to Home Depot, a different one than the purchase location. They pulled another one of the same type off their floor and identified the same variance. I ended up returning it and going with a Dewalt compressor. At least I know who makes that one should I ever have a problem! : )

Of course, if one were still interested in the Made in China Husky, I suppose it would be simple to put another gauge on the line to see how it compares...because your thoughts make the most sense of anything else I could come up with. Regulator is even labeled 120-150, as is the tank tag.

(FWIW, the Dewalt is working well...and seems to cut out at just over 200 like its supposed to.
