Black Cat Electric Air Compressor, oil leak

by Gary Iverson

I found oil expelled from the small compressor during cold weather. Just need to know where to check the oil supply and what oil should I use. Thank you.

Hi Gary. The details of your black Cat air compressor are not familiar to me.

As an oil lubricated compressor it will have an oil fill port, a drain port, and it will have either a sight glass showing the correct oil level, or it will have a dipstick attached to the oil fill cap.

As to the compressor oil to use, if you have the manual, always go with their recommendation. If you don't then visit your hardware store and ask for compressor lubricating oil. It may not be the exact oil that is specified in the manual, but for DIY type air compressor use, I expect it will be fine.

Cheers,

Bill
