GA-75 VSD converter fault

by Mike
(Toronto Canada)

Our compressor will start but immediately will stop.

Error says converter failure.

I reset and start again and it runs perfectly all day until the next morning.

Its like something is sticking and frees up after first attempt to start.

Sounds like oil or oil circulation problem, causing high temp.

GA75: Peaks observed in current immediately after...

by Viral
(India)

Greetings of the day…

GA75: Peaks observed in current immediately after the delta changeover for fraction of seconds.

We have observed below during its changeover from UNLOAD to LOAD i.e. STAR to DELTA.

Compressor Motor: 75 KW with Star- Delta starter, c/o time is 10 sec from STAR to DELTA.

During Unload condition: Motor starting current is about 300-325 A and then it remains normal up to time period of 10sec i.e. 80-85 A.

From Unload to Load conditions i.e. after 10 sec, motor switches over from STAR to DELTA, during this period motor is taking higher current i.e. 1100-1200A which is abnormal.

Kindly help to solve the above mentioned by providing your valuable insights.

Best Regards.

Yes it is transient.

Thanx

Given the normal star current, doesn't seem likely.

I'm understanding that the high current after delta switch is transient, correct?
That would point to the switching relays, I think.

Thanx, any possibility of mechanical defect in compressor?

You should, if you haven't, verify that all connections under your control are solid - that is, tight, and not corroded. See if you see the spikes at the closest you can get to the source power. If the spikes are present at the near-source end, you may have to get your power company involved.

But, if the spike is more local, then you need to consider that there is a problem in the relays that do the switching on the compressor. They may be switching too fast causing excess arcing.

Yes it is observed for all the 03 phases.

A 415V common bus supplies to the Compressor and Control Room lighting, during the peaks there are observed dips in the lighting which led to further investigations.

This is true for all 3 phases?

After the switch, what happens? IOW, what caused you to investigate?
