AS 18 air compressor

AS 18 air compressor

Hi, I have an AS18 Compressor for my airbrush, and it won't switch on anymore. The last time I used it was during a particularly hot and humid day and it did start to feel like it was over heating. I emptied what air was in the system however now when I switch it on nothing happens, is there anything I can do to resurrect it or is it time for a new one?

Andy, I found an image of your air compressor on line.

OK, if you've got power at the plug socket, then presumably the power is getting down the cord to the compressor.

The question I have is... is that power getting through your ON/OFF switch?

It were me I'd be pulling the cover off and using a multi-meter to ensure that power was getting to the switch, and then flipping it on, and making sure that power was getting past the ON/OFF switch when it was turned on.

If that is happening, and your compressor is still not responding, you need to check and see if the electric motor has a start capacitor on it, and check that to see if it's working. See the page on how to do that on this site.

After that, post a comment here with your findings if you would.

Cheers,

Bill

AS 18 compressor kicks on and off

by tony Clarke

I have an AS 18 compressor. When I turn it on, it comes up to pressure, which is OK, but even when I'm not using the air brush the compressor kicks on and off every few seconds. I first thought there was a leak, but the pressure gauge doesn't drop, or move for that matter. The thing that does worry me is that the constant on off of the motor is making the body very hot, and it can't be doing the motor any good coming on and going off every few seconds, any ideas please.

leak?
by: Doug in s.d.ca

You almost certainly have a leak.

If you just turn it on long enough for it to stop pumping, then turn off or unplug it, how long before you have a noticeable pressure drop?

Alternatively, open the regulator all the way up til it won't go any higher pressure, and you'll see the pressure drop as it cycles - your gage is after the regulator, so you can't 'see' a leak on it until it's really bad.
