Med- Air electric 240v compressor. 1990 year.

24lt 8 bar

Super little machine used in a framing wkshop.

The motor wont kick in and I suspect a part that buzzes and clicks!

it is the part which is made by Klixon 9660A has 2 female pin conectors which plug directly on to the pins coming through the motor housing. It also hjas a copper coil of about 6 windings and a plastic wing nut (not removeable ) on the bottom.

I think that this is mthe problem but cant be defininate.

Can you help.

Mal, it's posted.

Klixon makes circuit breakers, and start relays, thermal protectors etc.

My guess is the part is a start relay.

Contact them for details and parts availability, and with luck, a visitor offering a solution will arise too.

Do I have to small of a battery supply, or is my compressor to powerful to have a toggle switch in the power line?

by Tina Hernandez
(Dixon, Ca. USA)

While my pump is filling the tank, the toggle switch in my main power line heats up, then after a few days (2or 3), it tends to melt, or burns up. I am using an 8 gauge wire, with a 30 amp. toggle switch, between the battery and the pressure switch/ if you can help me, please do, I really need it! TINA

Tina, with no information supplied about what air compressor you are using, what the Horsepower and operating voltage is, it's really hard to provide an answer.

Is the toggle switch part of the original compressor assembly, and, what is the battery for?

Cheers,

Bill

compressor starts but humms

by Big Scott

When I plug in my compressor sometimes it starts other times it makes a humming noise and then the circuit breaker goes.

Next time you get your compressor running, let it pressure up to cut out pressure, and listen near the pressure switch to hear if it unloads. If it does not, it could be a periodically malfunctioning unloader valve.

If the unloader works each time, then I'm guessing it's your starter capacitor or motor itself.

Cheers,

Bill

Compressor cut out

by Eugene Rideout
(Hackett's Cove, NS,CA)

My Baby

My Baby

I have a 84ish model Devilbiss single phase 5hp.
Cut in pressure @ 120psi, cut out @ 160.
I was using the air to blow out some dust for another tool. It obviously was reaching cut in time, when it did, it ran for about 30 sec.,then cut out.
The main power switch won't reset, not sure what happens when the pressure switch goes, but nothing happening.
I pulled the main fuses for switch, tried to reset the button on the right lower corner of the box, no go.
Put the fuses back in, took the cover off, pushed the bigger buttom "Sylvania stamped on it", it stayed in, but when I pushed it again, popped out and stayed out.
Any ideas.

It looks like the pressure switch to me.

What I'm seeing is a picture of your pressure switch, and what I'm hearing in your comment is symptomatic of a failed pressure switch.

The lever bottom right likely says Run, Auto, Off or some such, and should be set to run.

Cheers,

Bill
