alton model AT01205-11 compressor not start?

My alton model AT01205-11 will not switch on. It has plenty of oil and all I hear when I flip the switch is a slight click

Assuming your power supply is good, try dumping all the air from the tank before trying to start the compressor. Any change?

Check that the pressure switch has tripped to on and power is actually flowing to the motor circuit.

If so, I'd look to the start capacitor as being the problem. You can see how to test it on this site.

Alton AT01204-6 power to the compressor

Air compressor plug

Air compressor plug

The ground peg on the plug of my compressor is broken off.

The compressor only builds around 25 lbs and won't go any higher.

Would the lack of a ground have any effect on building pressure?

The simple answer is that I don't know for sure, however, I don't think that the absence of the ground prong is preventing your air compressor from building pressure, I think it is making your air compressor inherently unsafe!

If you have a short anywhere in the compressor power supply, the absence of the ground prong on the power supply cord will mean that if anyone touches the compressor while it is in the "short" situation, they quite likely will get fried!

I do not know why your compressor power cord has the ground prong removed. It were my compressor, that's the first thing I would fix.

As to the compressor not building pressure, first replace the plug (you can get a retro plug like the one shown to add to your air compressor power cord) and then test the compressor. If it still does not build pressure, and I suspect that it won't, then visit the sitemap page, see the troubleshooting section, and follow the link to the page about why air compressors will not build pressure for some tips.

Bill
