Operate an air cylinder

If you have a supply of air, you will want a foot operated valve.

If you want the air cylinder to retract when you remove the foot from the foot valve, get a spring return 3/2 foot valve.

If you want the ram to stay down until you want it to come back up, you need a detented foot valve 4/2 configuration.

Probably a 1/4 NPT will do, if a 3/8 NPT is the same price get that. Don't know the size of your air cylinder.

You can use flow controls to adjust the speed with which the cylinder extends and retracts, so that it's not banging and clanging.

How to plumb up the valves and cylinder is already covered on the pages of this site. Use the search box to find them for complete details.

Cheers,

Bill
