air cyinder for tester
by John

I want to drive a shaft (3/4" dia) with about 75 lbs. of force. The motion is strictly back and forth. The catch is that I need it to go about 700 rpm for about 10 second per test. It can be a spring return as long as it will go fast enough.

Howdy John. Is the question "do I have an air cylinder that will do that"? Answer - no, I don't sell air cylinders myself any more, though my advertisers certainly do.
Some information is missing that you will need to know when you approach the cylinder manufacturers for this custom air cylinder.
How far do you need to move the shaft? In other words, what is the stroke length of the air cylinder? That will have a bearing on the air valve size necessary to get enough air into the cylinder and back out of it again to deliver the speed you need.
You say you need "700 rpm". Cylinders are linear devices and don't normally rotate, therefore, RPM is meaningless. I suspect you mean CPM or SPM. One is cycles per minute, the cylinder rod going out and coming back 700 cycles per minute Or, do you mean strokes per minute, with each extension and each retraction as one stroke? Be as clear as to your needs as possible when discussing your application with... say, Bimba or Norgren, or Numatics, or Miller, or Parker. All of these air cylinder manufacturers, and many more, will build a custom air cylinder to do almost any task.
They will also advise you on the lubricant you will most likely need to help enable an air cylinder to move that fast.
You only need one you say? Then be prepared to pay a pretty penny for the actuator that will do what you want. However, they can build one for you, of that I'm sure.
Cheers,
Bill
