Air consumption Calculation of actuators?

by Rishabh
(Chandigarh)

Dear sir,

I need to calculate air consumption of all of my actuators.

The data I got is Air consumption in NL/travel is 0.12 for one of my actuator....the have shown also that "Norm liter at 1 bar per travel"
I have 5 bar air pressure and 20 strokes in a minute...

I have to calculate in CFM unit....so please guide me how can I calculate???

Hi Rishabh:

While I'm not entirely sure what the specifications you have provide are, there are pages on this site that provide information about determining the air consumption of air cylinders.

Cylinder air consumption information is here.

I can also provide you with this information that has been obtained from Norgren USA website:

How much air is needed to operate a cylinder?

There are two parts to the air consumption of a cylinder. One is the volume displaced by the piston multiplied by the absolute working pressure.

Two is the unswept volume such as cavities in the end cover and piston, the cylinder ports, tubing and valve cavities, all multiplied by the gauge pressure.

The unswept part is likely to be a small percentage and will vary with individual installations. A general allowance of around 5% can be added to cover this.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Bill
